Another year, and the cookie exchange rolls on. And as everyone knows, Mike can't just This year I was planning on wrapping up my "Haunted Monastery" Trilogy -- by finally writing

For the young'uns out there, Adventure was the first adventure arcade game. It involved moving
an adventurer (represented by a green dot) around a realm and picking up items while
avoiding and battling deadly dragons. The game had incredible depth, cannily crammed
into a mere 4k ROM. Here's a screenie of the game on the venerable Atari 2600 and the
game packaging....
So how is Mikey gonna make an ADVENTURE 2600 Cookie Package for the ravenous masses? Well??
First of all, we have the RETRO 2600 packaging! Orange jsut like the old school game pack.
The light makes it a bit difficult to make out. The package reads...
ADVENTURE |
| 10 | Holiday Cookies | Three Recipes One Accessory Pack |
Inside the package, you got... all kinds of goodies.

| 2 Recipes contained in a faux Cartridge Game Manual | The Green Dot (Representing the player in the game) | A Castle Key (used to unlock doors in the game |
| The Sword (used to slay dragons in the game) | The Magnet (used to draw items towards you in the game) | The Bridge [not shown] (used to hop over maze walls. |
There was even a helpful map of the Adventure Realms in the bottom of the box! (Secret room not included!)

As for the cookies themselves, they came individually wrapped with their character identifiers on top.

(Here's two Grundles and the Rhindle and Knubberrub labels)
Here are all four labels...

As for those of you who got your packages, I'm sure you have a few... erm, inquiries.... so
refer to this handy-dandy FAQ! :P
| 1.) Dude! Why were my cookies so late!?? | If I could quote Han Solo... "It's not my fault...!" I ordered the dragon cookie cutter online... and as you can tell, they were pretty important to get this done. Well, 5-10 days later, instead of getting my cutters, I got a notice they had JUST been shipped. They showed up a week later. The packages were ready but I had no cutters. Sorry about that, troops. I hope everyone did at least get it for Xmas! |
2.) Uh, the package guarantees TEN cookies, and I got FIVE! Did your Math for Dummies kit get lost in the mail??
|
It did, actually. I'm having to get by counting on my toes. :O Anyhow, the cutters were twice as big as I anticipated when they finally showed up (see above). There was no chance of getting any more to fit in those packages. So everyone did in fact get 5 -- two Yorgles, two Rhindles and a Knubberrub. |
| 3.) I didn't get a full set of dragons! Only 2 Yorgles (which were Peanut Butter, not shortbread) and 2 Grundles! Where're my Rhindles, man??? | Well, you see, it's like this. The recipe for the cinnamon shortbread turned out great... looked great... tasted wonderful.... and DISINTEGRATED when you touched them. I am not man enough to cook shortbread properly, it seems. :( Needless to say, there was no way these cookies would have arrived in one piece, and opening the baker's sheet wrapping -- just to have a handful of sand pour out -- would not do. At this point, I decided that the hour was indeed waning and I'd just double up the dragons that DID work out. However, I thought it would be more a propos to include two Yorgles and two Grundles, since Rhindle does not even appear in the game under the easy difficulty setting, so it keeps the theme proper. :) |
| 4.) And I didn't get the Rhindle Peanut Butter Recipe! | There was no room on the manual! Here. |
5.) HOW can you do an Adventure Theme and NOT do the hidden dot easter egg thingie?
|
What do you people want from me?? *sob!* |
Merry Christmas to all, and happy dragonslaying! :D
